Racing Engine
  Blueprinting Course

Click here for the Engine Blueprinting Class Schedule

Joe Mondello's Racing Engine Blueprinting course is forty hours a week of high performance knowledge and know-how. We take you through the known and lesser known areas of racing engine design and building, teaching the proper and correct way to check your performance parts and pieces that are going into your engines. We also teach you how to use the  tricks and measuring devices to check up on your machinist, crankshaft grinder, camshaft grinder, piston manufacturer, connecting rod manufacturer and everyone else who tells you "It's perfect out of the box, just run it.".

There are many engine assemblers, but very few really good engine builders. Joe Mondello's course is designed to change that. This is where the real difference shows up in horsepower and longevity. This is a great course for beginners with some engine knowledge as well as any good professional engine builder who would like to expand their knowledge and get the edge over  the competition. We cover lots of things that are usually overlooked or taken for granted. We never assume a part will fit until it has been properly checked. We spend a lot of time on precision checks of components and finishing details of the parts that are run in an engine. For example, the use of BHJ precision block checking products helps us to correct all of the imperfections in a cylinder block with regards to angular geometry, center to centers & squareness.

At the Racing Engine Blueprinting Course, we will teach advanced fundamentals and procedures in racing engine design, preparation, blueprinting and assembly. Students will learn advanced engine theory, including component selection and parts combinations to create a total custom package for any type of high performance application, analyzing how different combinations work together for best results in horsepower, torque and longevity. Results are seen interactively using a computerized dyno simulator.

Students will receive in-depth instruction on inspection of engine components both before and after sending parts out to the machine shop with detailed visual and instrumentation checks. Correct machine shop techniques will be explained so that students will know how to evaluate and what to expect from the finished products of their machine shops. Next will be instruction on component preparation, what must be done to each engine part prior to assembly, along with checking, measuring & correcting the mock-up assembly for proper fit, clearance & camshaft degreeing. Students will be taught using a "hands-on" approach to utilize state of the art tools such as digital micrometers, precision height gauges, dial bore gauges, sonic testing equipment, profilometer (for checking surface finishes), Rockwell c-scale material hardness checking, correct utilization & torque-to-yield procedures for the latest types of high performance, high-strength engine fasteners (bolts, studs, nuts & washers). Procedures will also be taught for the correct use of other checking tools including v-blocks, bolt stretch gauges, protractors, and granite surface blocks with dial indicators. Students will use our computerized camshaft profiler to check & measure each lobe of a camshaft for lift, duration & lobe separation. Students will learn the appropriate way to take measurements of components like center to center lengths of connecting rods, crankshaft strokes, and block heights.

Advanced course topics include checking & correction of factory production parts, including the alignment of cylinder & lifter bores in the cylinder block and how to make it square and true. Each class will learn the proper way to prepare each engine component for final assembly and then practice final engine assembly techniques in our newly completed shop area.

This course combines 40+ years of proven engine building experience with the lesser known "secrets" not shared by most leaders in the industry, into one very intense week that will make a novice engine builder into an educated and knowledgeable individual able to make intelligent decisions about building reliable high performance racing engines. Each course includes a student workbook and classroom instruction along with video presentations, but consists mostly of hands-on instruction in the shop, working with real tools & engines.

Our engine assembly room is always clean, with good lighting and has controlled heat and air conditioning for the proper assembly environment. The engine clean room is a hospital type atmosphere full of precision instruments, Snap-On Tools, metal benches, engine stands, etc. The machine shop area is well lit, very clean and full of the best equipment. Our complete shop is painted with a beautiful paint scheme, semi-gloss finish with high gloss epoxy floors. The upstairs classroom is carpeted and provides a professional setting. There is a very relaxing break room full of snacks and refreshments. This is where a great lunch will be served daily.

Our school is designed for all shops, even those that cannot afford all the "high-tech" gadgets, so that they may still get a share of the racing engine market in their area for street, bracket, all out competition, circle track, road racing, etc.

This is a highly technical class, but we will take time to teach beginners without any experience. This is the only school in the country you can attend for one week and graduate with 40 years of experience.

The class registration fee is $2,500.00 per course, per student and includes "hands-on" instruction by Joe Mondello himself along with a workbook students will take with them after completing the class. The class runs five days (Monday Thru Friday) , 9 hours per day. The Engine Blueprinting and Head Porting class schedules run back to back, and we offer a discount of $300.00 if you enroll in both courses.  Included in the price is 6 nights of lodging, 5 great lunches, snacks and refreshments. A registration deposit of $1,000.00 will be required. There will be a minimum of 6 students per class to a maximum of 12.
